How does qualification from Group I work?

The top 2 from Group I advance directly to the Round of 32, the new knockout phase of the 2026 World Cup. The third-placed team may also advance if they are among the 8 best third-placed teams across all groups (A-L). The fourth-placed team is eliminated.

Tiebreaker criteria when teams are level on points: goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head result between the teams involved, and as a last resort, drawing of lots.
